On the run!

Whilst at the same time as looking for work I thought it would be a good idea to try get fit. I have some free time so I decided to go running around the local area. So far this week I have clocked up 18km. The only thing problem is that it is so bloody cold my nose is constantly running plus I have to wear so many layers as well! That aside I do enjoy doing it, just as long as I have my music with me!

I didn’t go running yesterday though as I was out on Wednesday night and got completely sozzled! I was out watching the Liverpool Vs Man City game with my friend Micke but before that I met up with an English pal of mine Tom.

Now the Liverpool game did not kick off until 9pm and I was meeting Tom at 4pm so I had 5 hours of drinking time before my next engagement! 6 beers and 3 jagers later I made my way to The Dubliners pub for the game!
The Dubliners is the pub where we always watch the Liverpool matches and, as usual, the Swedish Liverpool fans were out in force! We ended up drawing the game 2-2 which was enough to see us through to the final. I can’t remember much about the game other than the goals but I do remember shouting alot!

I managed to get myself home where Aicha was fast asleep. Now in the past if I have been out drinking I would normally sleep in the other room as I am prone to snoring but on this occasion I didn’t. Suffice to say that whilst I got a good night sleep.......... Aicha didn’t! I knew this as soon as I woke up as my ribs were hurting after she had given me a dig in my sleep!
Yesterday was a bit of right off. I basically did nothing all day other than eat and nurse my hangover! The good thing was that I was not alone as both Tom and Micke were suffering too! I just can’t handle it anymore. There was a time where I could go out, get hammered then get up the next day no problem. Not anymore. My hangovers seem to last days now................which is why I am sitting here writing this rather than being out on the run!

Winter has arrived!

Super Sunday!

Yesterday was a busy day. Saw a couple of appartments around lunch time, both of which needed alot of work and were only worth investing in if we could shave 200,000 kr (£20k) off the asking price. After thinking about it for a while over lunch we decided to leave it. I'm sure plenty more places will become available plus we are in no rush.

After dinner it was time to head off to football training. It has been snowing heavily over the last couple of days so I wore a few extra layers for the journey. We were to train in a place called Kärrtorp which is located in the south of Stockholm. Now I'm currently living in the north west so it was a bit of a mission to get there but I would travel anywhere for a game of footy! I had to take a bus then a train and then the subway......thats commitment for you!!

Once I found the place at first I felt like a spare one at a wedding. For those of you who have at any time joined a new team you will know what I mean! Everyone knows each other so you feel like an outsider but once you start playing it feels more comfortable. That was until the warm up began............15 minutes of non stop running, jumping and floor exercises! My legs felt like jelly afterwards! I managed to get through it but I wasn't expected such a harsh opening to training! Felt good after though........can't pussy out on the first training session!

Once we started playing some football I got chatting to a few of the guys in between games. Most of the guys there were either English, Scottish or Irish........and most had moved to Sweden because of a woman same as me!! Some of them have only been here for a year or two so it was good to talk to them about life here as they have been in the same boat as me.

The football was good too. We were split into teams for a 5-a-side tournament and I was put in a team with another goalkeeper so we decided to share the responsibility of guarding the sticks for each game. We became the draw specialists of the tournament, drawing our first 3 games 0-0! We did eventually manage a win, totally against the run of play mind! After that it was back to normal, drawing our next 2 games although one of which I scored in after having barged my way through the defense!

All in all I really enjoyed the session. It was good to meet some new faces which is important for me especially as I'm just starting out here. They were a good bunch of lads, approachable and helpful, and I am looking forward to training next week.

So that was my super Sunday. If only the Mancs had lost then it would have been even better.........!!

Hello Sweden!!

Wow........ I have finally made it! It's been a long time coming but I am finally here........HELLO SWEDEN!!

The last few weeks have been a bit of a blur. What with Christmas, numerous leaving parties and the whole business of actually leaving, its been a pretty mental time of late! I've been here just over a week now and things are beginning to settle down.

The first 3 or 4 days felt a bit like a holiday. Aicha and I spent most of the time shopping in town mainly to find me a new smart phone. After a lot of searching I eventually found one I liked but it seemed everywhere we went they were sold out of them! We got there in the end though as the last place we tried had one left so I snapped it up!

On the Friday we treated ourselves to a Spa session. Never been to one before but I will definitely be going back. I recommend the full body massage.............good times!! This was then followed by a cracking meal at Jensens Beef House............good, good times!!

We saw Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows at the cinema on Saturday. Now I'm a bit of film buff and its commonly known that sequels never live up to the original but this was one of those rare occasions where that trend was blown out the water. Top film! Robert Downey Jr is fast becoming one of my favourite actors. Loved him in this and also in Iron Man but I think his turn in Tropic Thunder will always be my favourite!

Sticking with movies, I picked up the last two James Bond movies in the supermarket at a bargain 60 kronor for the pair (thats £6 to us English folk!). I find the cost of things very strange here. Some things are ridiculously expensive (£6.50 for pint is enough to turn you teetotal!) yet things like food and drink in supermarkets are quite reasonable. The cost of buying somewhere seems cheaper though. Just the other day we looked at a 2 bed appartment which in London would probably cost over 250k but here it went for 170k!

The last few days I have been looking for some part time work. I am enrolling at SFI on Monday, which is a college to learn swedish. The course is only 3 hours every morning so I am free to do some part time work evenings and weekends. Have been to a few bars looking for some work but as yet nothing has come of it. I have also been looking online and have sent a few applications off so hopefully I might hear back within the next few days.

One of the pubs I visited, The Tudor Arms, had a football team. One of the things I will miss the most about Brighton is playing footy with my pals so I took the details of the manager and got in contact with him. The football season here runs from March til October so they are currently in pre-season training. They have invited me along to the training session tomorrow so hopefully if I impress I may get into the squad. Football has always been the thing I am most confident in so I'm sure I will do fine plus goalkeepers are in short supply so that should bode well for me!!

Anyway thats where I'm at so far. I'm gonna try and blog as often as possible so drop in every now and then for an update..............
